Mr Colin Butler
Overview
Colin Butler is a Paediatric Otolaryngologist Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), Head & Neck and Thyroid Consultant.
Colin is dedicated to the safe, effective and efficient care of children with ENT conditions. He is committed to research in airway and thyroid diseases in children.
He has interests in all aspects of Paediatric ENT and in particular head and neck and complex airway surgery.

Mr Butler gained his medical qualification at University College London in 2004, where he completed an additional degree in Anatomy, involving clinical research into cleft lips. He has completed surgical training in London with attachments at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, University College Hospital, Barts and The London, St Marys, Charing Cross and The Marsden. He has had comprehensive training in ENT and has developed a particular interest in Airway and Tracheal disease, Head and Neck, Thyroid and Parathyroid surgery.
During his surgical training he completed a PhD in Airway stem cell biology, undertaken a fellowship in Tracheal surgery, and completed obvserverships at Cincinatti Children’s Hospital. He is Fellowship trained in Paediatric ENT surgery at Great Ormond Street hospital and has undertaken a Royal College of Surgeons fellowship in Thyroid and Parathyroid surgery.
Mr Butler has undertaken a PhD in Airway stem cell biology, investigating regenerative methods for the airway. He was awarded a Royal College of Surgeons fellowship and a Wellcome Fellowship award to pursue this under Professor Sam Janes in the Lungs for Living laboratory at UCL. He currently has a research group investigating novel gene therapy approaches and mucosal sheet technology for the airway at the Institute of Child health.
