Dr Rossa Brugha
Overview
Dr Brugha read medicine at Oxford and completed his higher specialist training in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine on the London rotation (Royal Brompton Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital). During postgraduate training he obtained his PhD (University of London, 2015) on the impact of air pollution on children’s respiratory health. He was subsequently appointed as an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College, where he worked in the cystic fibrosis research group. He was appointed as an NHS Consultant in 2018 and has worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital, in the respiratory and lung transplant team, since 2020.
Dr Brugha is active in research and is a co-lead of the London Cystic Fibrosis Collaboration, as well as centre lead at Great Ormond Street for CF trials. He is an Honorary Associate Professor at the Great Ormond Street UCL Institute of Child Health. He has publications in major journals including Science, Lancet Respiratory Medicine, and Thorax.
He has presented at international conferences including the American Thoracic Society, European Respiratory Society, European Cystic Fibrosis Society and British Thoracic Society meetings, as well as an award lecture at the British Science Festival, interviews on BBC News, BBC Radio 4 and ITV News about his research.
