Overview

Mr Dulanka Silva is a Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. In addition to General Paediatric Neurosurgery and Hydrocephalus, his Specialist Expertise is in Paediatric Cerebro/Neurovascular Surgery, Craniosynostosis Surgery (including Endoscopic Craniosynostosis Surgery and Spring-Assisted Craniosynostosis Surgery), Craniofacial Skull Base Surgery and Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) (for Spasticity in Cerebral Palsy).

He completed his medical training at the University of Cambridge (2009) including a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) investigating the role of oculomotor movements in Parkinson’s Disease. At the end of his Neurosurgical Residency training, he was awarded the Norman Dott Gold Medal in Neurosurgery by the Society of British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS) and the Royal College of Surgeons Joint Committee for Intercollegiate Examinations (JCIE) for the most outstanding performance in the FRCS Neurosurgery Specialist Examination in 2018.

As a result, he was also awarded the Marjorie Newsome Fellowship and Senior Neurosurgical Award from the SBNS and Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI). This encompassed a visiting Fellowship to the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona in USA where he spent some time learning Cerebro/Neurovascular surgery under the mentorship of Professor Michael Lawton, Chief Cerebrovascular Surgeon and President at Barrow Neurological Institute.

Specialist training in Paediatric Neurosurgery followed with completion of the Paediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in 2019-2020, after which he was appointed as Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgeon at Great Ormond Street.
