Great Ormond Street Hospital celebrates International Women’s Day
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) in London celebrated with their staff and international mothers this International Women’s Day. Last year the hospital treated over 1,500 patients from over 80 different countries, and continues to work to support the children and families in their care with a range of cultural and religious celebrations and pastoral support.
On the afternoon of the 8th March, every ward in the International and Private Patient division of GOSH hosted a party. Mother’s from around the world came together to enjoy treats and a host of games on the wards, led by the Arabic Interpreting team and Hospitality team. Hospitality staff set up a buffet of tasty treats, including specially branded cupcakes for the event.
GOSH also celebrated the day online through Instagram stories and Facebook live - where staff from across the hospital talked about their roles and provided top tips for young women interested in working in science and medicine.
"My favourite thing about my role is the patients and families I get to meet everyday. I think it's a real honour to treat them." Dr Joy Dawes, Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist.
"Just go for it - the world is your oyster." Dr Lucy Hepburn Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist.
"The most important thing if you are interested in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths - is to engage in it. Follow your dreams and passions to get your dream job." Elaine Cloutman-Green, Lead Healthcare Scientist.
