Hoong-Wei Gan 医生
概述
Dr Hoong-Wei Gan has been a consultant paediatric endocrinologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children since 2019. He qualified in medicine at the University of Nottingham Medical School (2006), and subsequently completed his paediatric endocrinology subspecialty training in Nottingham and London (GOSH, University College London Hospital and the Royal London Hospital). He is Co-Chair of the British Society for Paediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes Special Interest Group in Hypothalamo-Pituitary Axis Tumours (HPAT) and coordinates the National HPAT Advisory Group. At GOSH, he helped set up the first collaborative, multidisciplinary long-term follow-up clinic for childhood brain tumour survivors, which has been featured in the Macmillan Cancer Support charity toolkit for developing cancer rehabilitation services.
He has a longstanding interest in the hormonal effects of brain tumours and their treatment, particularly on the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, having completed both his research degrees in the area at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. His MSc thesis (2013) examined long-term neuroendocrine outcomes in children with optic pathway gliomas followed up over 30 years at GOSH (the largest such study to date), whilst his PhD (2020) focussed on the quantification of appetite-regulating hormones in children with hypothalamic obesity (partially funded by the British Society for Paediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes and the NIHR GOSH Biomedical Research Centre). He remains research active in the area, having published the first evidence-based national guideline for the management of paediatric craniopharyngioma, and is also primary or sub investigator on a number of ongoing drug trials at GOSH.
He additionally has a particular interest in the education and training of future generations of paediatric endocrinologists, being Co-Lead for Education and Training in his NHS department, and Education Lead for Digital Learning with the GOSH Learning Academy
