Dr Jon Goldin on the coronavirus and child mental health

15/05/2020

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Dr. Jon Goldin Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) sat down with the Association of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (ACAMH) Podcasts to discuss child mental health in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

"I think it’s a very difficult time for young people, it’s a very difficult time for us all. It’s quite normal to be anxious about the coronavirus pandemic and I think it’s important to be honest about that. For children who are already feeling anxious anyway this is going to be exacerbated by what’s going on but I do think it’s important to normalise the feelings of anxiety that are around. When adults are talking to young people say ‘yes, I am also feeling a bit anxious.’ But also try not to get things out of perspective.”

During the 30-minute podcast, Dr Goldin shares advice and tips on how parents can support their child through this challenging time and how the ongoing situation may be affect children who already experience anxiety. Listen here:
